REX Lounge Sydney Terminal 2 Date of Visit: April 2026
Time: Morning visit (9AM to 11AM)
The REX Lounge Sydney Terminal 2 is a very basic domestic airport lounge and one that feels far below the standard you would hope for at a major airport like Sydney. The best part of the experience is the natural light and partial runway views through the large floor-to-ceiling windows, but beyond that there is very little to get excited about. The food and drink offering is extremely poor, the Wi-Fi is slow, and the overall space feels more like a dated waiting room than a premium airport lounge.
REX is a regional Australian airline best known for operating small passenger propeller aircraft. Sydney Airport Terminal 2 is the domestic terminal, where both Virgin Australia and Jetstar have a major presence, and we reviewed this lounge before our Virgin Australia flight to Melbourne. While it does work as a quiet place to sit away from the gate area, it is absolutely NOT a lounge I would recommend paying for.

Sydney Hotel Options
If you are flying early, arriving late, or connecting through Sydney Airport (SYD), staying nearby keeps things simple. If you are heading into the city, the Sydney CBD is best for sightseeing and business visits. See below for excellent hotel deals on Booking.com, filtered based on our top picks.
Check-in Experience
Check-in was one of the oddest lounge entry experiences I have ever had.
The staff member at reception was quite rude and after scanning our Priority Pass, told us to make sure we put our rubbish in the bin after we had finished, as there were no staff working inside the lounge. She then walked over to the lounge door, entered a code, and only then did the doors open for us. It all felt very bizarre and not especially welcoming.
That first impression did not help, and it immediately made the lounge feel more like a self-service waiting area than somewhere designed to offer a premium pre-flight lounge experience.
Ambiance and Seating
The lounge was pretty empty during our visit and probably for good reason!
It is a small lounge and the overall feel is basic, almost like a hospital waiting room rather than a comfortable airline lounge. The décor is plain and dated, with worn blue and orange armchairs that look a little sad.
To be fair, the views are one of the better parts of the lounge. Some of the seating looks out through large floor-to-ceiling windows with partial runway and tarmac views, and that natural light does at least make the space feel a bit less enclosed.
There were also a few touches I did like. The REX branding gives the lounge a bit of identity, and there were several REX model planes on display along with books about the history of the airline. That added some character and was a genuinely nice detail.
There were also three workstation desks with privacy screens, plus a printer nearby. That area felt especially old and tired though, almost like stepping back into the early 2000s. A live departures board and a large television showing the news were useful additions, but they did not do much to change the overall impression that this is a very tired lounge.

Food and drinks at the REX Lounge Sydney Terminal 2
The food and drink offering here is probably one of the weakest I have seen in any lounge on the planet.
There were no fresh options at all, not even something as simple as an apple. Breakfast consisted of toast, cornflakes, and pre-packaged yoghurt and granola. There were also pre-packaged blueberry muffins that looked pretty unappealing, along with pre-packaged cookies and banana bread. That was the full extent of the offering.
It felt incredibly limited and very disappointing, even by domestic contract lounge standards. There was nothing that felt fresh, substantial, or remotely premium.
Drinks were not much better. There was a coffee machine that made a fairly poor latte and Americano, although the tea selection was decent enough. Soft drinks were available in a fridge, including Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite, plus orange and apple juice.
Alcohol is locked away until 3:00 PM, in the form of physically padlocked fridges, which is unusual in itself. Once available, the selection includes bottled Peroni, Somersby cider, Carlton Draught, rosé, and two white wines, Tempranillo and Chardonnay. There was no red wine, no spirits, no sparkling wine, and no Champagne. There was also no ice and no lemon on offer.

Wi-Fi and Amenities at the REX Lounge Sydney Terminal 2
The Wi-Fi was free but quite slow. It did just about work, but only really enough to send WhatsApp messages and emails. The Wi-Fi was not fast enough for streaming or YouTube.
The toilets were basic but clean, which is about the best that can be said for the amenities here.
There are a few practical extras such as the printer, the workstation desks with power ports, the departure board, and the TV, but none of these really change the fact that the lounge feels dated and a bit depressing overall.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
• Large floor to ceiling windows with good natural light and partial runway views.
• Nice REX branding touches, including model planes and books on the airline’s history.
Cons:
• Very rude staff and strange check-in experience.
• Lounge feels small, dated, and more like a waiting room than a premium lounge.
• Food offering was extremely poor, with no fresh options at all.
• Coffee was disappointing and the overall drinks selection was very limited.
• Alcohol only available after 3:00 PM, with the fridge padlocked until then.
• No spirits, no sparkling wine, no Champagne, and no red wine.
• Wi-Fi was slow.
Final Verdict: Is the REX Lounge Sydney Terminal 2 Worth Visiting?
The REX Lounge Sydney Terminal 2 is a very underwhelming lounge and one of the weakest I have visited in quite some time. The partial runway views and quiet atmosphere are the main positives, and I did like some of the small REX touches such as the model aircraft and history books, but that is really where the praise ends.
The staff were rude, the space felt dated and uninspiring, the Wi-Fi was slow, and the food and drink offering was poor. There was nothing fresh to eat, the coffee was not good, and the alcohol setup felt both limited and aggressively restrictive.
So while it can serve as a quiet place to sit away from the terminal crowds, this is not a lounge I would ever recommend paying for. Unless you have access included and simply want somewhere calm with a view, there is very little reason to go out of your way to visit.
