The Plaza Premium Lounge Sydney Terminal 1 is a mixed lounge experience. The best parts are the decent hot food selection for such a small lounge, the impressive barista-made coffee, and the floor-to-ceiling runway and tarmac views. Unfortunately, the lounge is simply far too small for the volume of passengers using it, and that really damages the overall experience.

The Plaza Premium Lounge Sydney Terminal 1 is located air side in Sydney Airport’s international terminal, opposite gate 25. Maximum stay is limited to two hours, and children under the age of two can enter free. The lounge is open from 6AM to 10PM daily.

Check-in Experience
Check-in was not a strong point here.
When we arrived at around 11AM, there was a large queue outside the lounge. Staff informed us that the lounge was already very busy and that although we could still enter, it would be unlikely that we would be able to sit together. That was hardly an encouraging start!
The staff were not particularly friendly during this process, and that poor first impression continued throughout the visit. While plates and glasses were cleared away at times, it was not done especially regularly, so there were lots of dirty dishes left lying around the lounge.
Ambiance and Seating at the Plaza Premium Lounge Sydney Terminal 1
This lounge is very small and absolutely not large enough to cope with the traffic levels using it.
The layout is long and narrow, almost in a thin straight line, which makes the crowding feel even worse once there is more than say 20 people in the lounge. It does not take much for the space to start feeling cramped, and during our visit it never felt particularly comfort.
The best part of the lounge is easily the views. There are large floor-to-ceiling windows with both runway and tarmac views, plus a huge amount of natural light. If you enjoy plane spotting, this is definitely one of the stronger parts of the experience.
Seating was a mixed bag. There were swivel chairs and workstation desks with power ports facing the tarmac, which were probably the most attractive seats in the lounge. There were also some armchairs, although several looked worn and ripped, which did not exactly help the lounge feel premium. There was also a very small café-style seating area, which again felt rather cramped.

Food and drinks at the Plaza Premium Lounge Sydney Terminal 1
For such a small lounge, the hot food selection was actually pretty good.
Options included prawn crackers, spring rolls, Malaysian chicken curry, creamy pumpkin pasta, buffalo chicken wings, toast, hot bread rolls, cheese and crackers, quinoa and chickpea salad, a small ham and salami charcuterie selection, and coleslaw. There was no fresh fruit unfortunately, which was a bit disappointing, but overall the food offering was better than expected.
Drinks were more mixed. One real positive was the coffee, as you could order from a barista rather than use a standard self-serve machine. We had a flat white and a long black, and both were very good.
Tea options were also solid, with English Breakfast, green tea, peppermint, and camomile available.
Alcohol was served at the tended bar. The wine selection included two Australian reds, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, plus two whites, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Beer was where things became more frustrating. Byron Bay Lager on tap was complimentary, but Stone & Wood Pacific Ale, Kirin Ichiban, and Tooheys Ultra all came at an extra charge, ranging from 5 AUD to 8 AUD per schooner. That felt pretty ridiculous given that these are hardly premium drinks. Spirits were also extra, which again felt very harsh for an international airport lounge.
Soft drinks included Pepsi, Pepsi Max, Schweppes Lemonade, Ginger Ale, and Sunkist Orangeade from the fountain, alongside orange juice, apple juice, lemon-infused water, and still and sparkling water.
Overall, the food offering was solid, however the drinks selection felt basic and a bit cheap!
Wi-Fi and Amenities at the Plaza Premium Lounge Sydney Terminal 1
The Wi-Fi was free and worked well and there was a live departure board, which was useful.
The toilets were clean and functional, but there were no extra amenities such as showers.

- Large floor-to-ceiling runway and tarmac views with lots of natural light.
- Solid hot food selection and delicious barista made coffee.
- Barista-made coffee is a genuine highlight.
- Free Wi-Fi worked well.
Cons
- Lounge is far too small for the number of passengers using it, with the thin narrow layout giving a cramped feel.
- Large queue at check-in and staff were not particularly friendly.
- Lounge was messy, with lots of dirty plates and glasses left around.
- Some armchairs were worn and ripped.
- Spirits and some beers cost extra.
- No showers or other premium amenities.
Final Verdict: Is the Plaza Premium Lounge Sydney Terminal 1 Worth Visiting?
The Plaza Premium Lounge Sydney Terminal 1 gets some important things right. The food selection is good, the coffee is a real step above most self-serve lounge machines, and the floor-to-ceiling windows with runway and tarmac views are a nice bonus.
The problem is that the lounge is simply too small and too busy to feel relaxing. The narrow layout, lack of seating space, rude staff, dirty plates left on tables, and extra charges for pretty standard alcoholic drinks all take away from what could otherwise be a decent lounge.
