The REX Lounge Melbourne Terminal 4 is a disappointing domestic lounge that feels far more like a basic waiting room than an actual airport lounge. The strongest points are the comfortable enough armchairs, reliable Wi-Fi, and the fact that there is at least some natural light, but beyond that there is very little to recommend or write home about. The food and drink selection is very limited, there are no real views, and the overall experience lacks any sense of premium feel.
This lounge is located in Melbourne Airport’s domestic departures area in Terminal 4, and like the REX lounge in Sydney, it reflects a very modest regional airline offering rather than anything close to a business class standard. While it can serve as a quiet enough place to sit, it is not a lounge I would recommend paying for, especially when the main terminal has better food and drink options available.

The REX Lounge Melbourne Terminal 4 is located air side for domestic departures near gate 30. You will need to follow the signs down the escalators and turn right.
The lounge is open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday to Friday, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturdays, and from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Sundays.

Check-in Experience
Check-in is handled at the REX service desk opposite the lounge rather than at the lounge entrance itself.
Once checked in, a member of staff enters a code to let you into the lounge. It is a slightly odd setup, but on this visit the staff member was friendly and smiley, so the process itself was pleasant enough.
Staff also came to check the lounge regularly during the visit, although they mainly remained at the REX staff desk outside rather than actively clearing tables inside the lounge.
Ambiance and Seating at the REX Lounge Melbourne Terminal 4
This is a pretty small lounge, and the overall feel is much closer to a waiting room than a proper premium airport lounge.
The space is made up of blue and orange armchairs, along with a small workstation area with power ports. The armchairs were comfortable enough, but there were no power ports next to them, which is a real drawback given that most people will want to charge devices while seated.
The lounge is on ground level, with windows that run from the ceiling to around halfway down the wall. This does at least allow some natural light into the lounge, but sadly there are no real views, so it lacks one of the main features that can help lift the airport lounge experience.
There was also a meeting room, which was vacant during the visit and did not look like it was being used. A few plants and some magazines added a little character to the space, and there was also a departure board plus a large TV screen showing the news, which were useful touches. Still, none of that really changed the basic and slightly uninspiring feel of the lounge overall.
Food and drinks at the REX Lounge Melbourne Terminal 4
The food and drink offering here is poor and one of the biggest reasons why this lounge falls short.
There was no hot food at all. The food selection consisted of a few pre-packaged sandwiches, some cheese and crackers, fresh apples, pre-packaged peanuts, Tim Tams, and pre-packaged muffins. That was the full extent of the offering!
To be fair, this was slightly better than the food selection at the REX Lounge in Sydney, but that is not saying much. It still felt extremely limited and underwhelming, with very little that felt fresh, filling, or remotely premium.
Drinks were equally basic. There was a coffee machine using coffee pods, plus a tea selection that included English Breakfast, camomile, green tea, and peppermint. Soft drinks included Coke Zero, Sprite, Coca Cola, and orange and apple juice.
Alcohol was only available after 3:00 PM, which again feels unnecessarily restrictive. The alcohol fridges were also padlocked which felt a little aggressive to be honest! Even then, the offering was very limited, with bottled Peroni, Somersby cider, and white wine as the only alcoholic drinks available. There were no spirits at all.
Overall, the food and beverage selection is disappointing and gives very little reason to choose this lounge over simply eating and drinking in the main terminal.
Wi-Fi and Amenities at the REX Lounge Melbourne Terminal 4
Wi-Fi was free and did work well, which is one of the more positive aspects of the lounge.
There was also a small workstation with power ports, which is useful if you specifically want to work, but it is frustrating that there were no charging points by the main armchairs where most people would actually choose to sit.
Another slightly odd feature was the area where guests were expected to return used glassware and plates themselves. Combined with the staff remaining outside the lounge for much of the time, this added to the feeling that this is a self-service waiting area rather than a genuinely premium lounge experience.
Overall, the amenities are basic and functional, but not enough to make the lounge feel especially worthwhile.

The REX Lounge Melbourne Terminal 4 is a disappointing lounge that feels much more like a basic waiting area than somewhere designed to improve your airport experience. The Wi-Fi worked well, the armchairs were reasonably comfortable, and the staff member at check-in was friendly, but those positives are not enough to lift what is otherwise a very weak offering.
The lack of hot food, the heavily pre-packaged snack selection, the absence of spirits, and the general waiting room atmosphere all make this lounge feel low value.
Overall, unless you already have access and simply want a quiet place to sit, you are better off getting something to eat and drink in the main terminal area instead.
