Kyra Lounge Hong Kong Gate 40 Date of Visit: March 2026
Time: Evening visit (9PM to 11PM)
Kyra Lounge Hong Kong Gate 40 is an excellent lounge option at Hong Kong International Airport and a very good place to spend a couple of hours before your flight. The standout features are the large and well spread out seating areas, the excellent fully tended bar with a proper cocktail menu, and the calm, stylish atmosphere throughout. Food is strong, Wi-Fi works well, and the lounge feels polished, welcoming, and comfortable from the moment you arrive.
This is a separate lounge to the Kyra Lounge Hong Kong Gate 23, although the experience felt very similar, which makes sense given that it is the same lounge operator. In many ways, I actually preferred this one because there are more seating options and the layout feels more spacious. The only real downside is the lack of shower facilities, but aside from that this is a very impressive lounge and one I would happily visit again.

Check-in Experience
Check-in was a strong start to the visit.
The staff were all lovely, welcoming, and very professional, which immediately puts the visit on a good footing! The service remained strong throughout the visit, and the team created a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
The bar attendant in particular was very polite and smiley and was happy to go through the cocktails menu with me, giving her recommendations on which ones to try!

Ambiance and Seating
This is a pretty large lounge with several different seating sections, and that variety is one of its biggest strengths.
There is a darker seating area towards the back with large private armchairs, lots of plants, and a pretty cool electric fake fireplace. That part of the lounge felt especially calm and cosy, and it is probably the best area if you want to properly unwind before a flight.
There is also a large café-style seating area near the buffet, plus a separate armchair seating section near the bar. Because these areas are broken up well, the lounge feels more spacious and more interesting than a single open room layout. The lounge had a few visitors during our visit, but it remained pretty calm and quiet overall.

Food and drinks at the Kyra Lounge Hong Kong Gate 40
The food and drink offering here is superb and one of the biggest reasons why this lounge stands out.
The drinks selection was particularly strong. The bar is fully tended, and while there was no Champagne, almost everything else was very impressive. There were a couple of red wines, white wines, and a rosé, along with the usual premium spirits. Beer options included Suntory The Premium Malt’s and Stella Artois on draught.
Like Kyra Lounge Gate 23, the real standout is the cocktail menu. There were around ten cocktails available, along with a few mocktails, which instantly makes the drinks offering feel a lot more premium than a standard contract lounge. I tried the Fragrant Harbour, which included gin, lychee syrup, blue curaçao, and yoghurt, and then the Bloom Time, which had rum, violet syrup, apple juice, jasmine tea, and soda water. Both were delicious!
There was also a self-serve coffee machine, which made a pretty standard Americano, plus there was a large tea selection.
Food was also very strong and was identical to the offering at the Kyra Lounge Gate 23. Hot dishes included vegetable spring rolls, Portuguese chicken casserole, baked fish fillet in cream herb sauce, pasta bolognese, vegetable samosas, crispy pork with egg fried rice served in mini red pots, and a couple of soup options.
Cold food included fresh fruit such as apples, oranges, and bananas, plus lots of salad items including lettuce, tomato, peppers, and onions. There were also yoghurts, cheesecake, and ham, cheese, and bread rolls.
Overall, the food and drink selection was well above average for a contract lounge.

Wi-Fi and Amenities at the Kyra Lounge Hong Kong Gate 40
Wi-Fi was free and worked well during the visit.
The toilets were modern and sleek, and I liked the large plant selection inside them, which was an unusual touch that helped the lounge feel a bit more stylish.
The only real missing feature here is showers. That is the main weakness of this lounge and the one area where it falls short of being a more complete premium airport lounge experience.
Even so, the lounge still delivers strongly in most other areas, with the calm setting and reliable Wi-Fi making it a very comfortable place to spend a couple of hours.

Final Verdict: Is Kyra Lounge Hong Kong Gate 40 Worth Visiting?
The Kyra Lounge Hong Kong Gate 40 is a wonderful lounge and a very good place to spend time before your flight. The spacious layout, calm atmosphere, varied seating options, strong food selection, and impressive cocktail menu all make it feel like a genuinely enjoyable pre-flight space rather than just somewhere to sit.
While it is very similar to the Kyra Lounge Gate 23, I would probably give this one the edge because the seating options are slightly better and the overall layout feels especially comfortable.
Like the Kyra Lounge at gate 23, the lack of showers is the main downside, but aside from that this is a very strong lounge and one I would happily use again when transiting through Hong Kong.
