During this evening visit, the lounge felt calm, stylish and surprisingly premium, with a strong Asian food buffet, a proper cocktail bar, fast Wi-Fi and plenty of seating. The main weakness is the lack of showers, which is disappointing at a major transit airport like Hong Kong, especially if you are connecting between long-haul flights.

Check-in Experience
Check-in was as easy as it gets. There was no queue, the reception staff were very friendly and we were in the lounge in under a minute.
Seating and Ambience
There were plenty of seating options without feeling crowded. It had mostly armchair seating which was very comfortable. There were larger tables for families, cafe style seating for those wanting to eat, as well as armchairs facing the floor-to-ceiling windows with great views over the tarmac.
In terms of design, the lounge was architectural whilst feeling elegant and clean. The stylish bar was a standout centre piece with a kind of under water theme.
The lounge overall felt very chilled, as the space was practically empty when we visited, which was absolutely perfect during a layover.
Food and Drink
The food selection was a standout here, offering fantastic Asian cuisine as well as providing western options. The food was laid out across a large buffet area in a self-serve format.
Hot food included: vegetable spring rolls, pork dumplings, steamed custard bao buns, noodles, tomato pasta, curry, crispy pork with egg fried rice in cute pots, delicious stir fried vegetables and a couple of soup options.
Cold food included: fresh fruit, lots of salad items, yoghurts and cheese cake.
The drinks selection was a memorable part of the Kyra lounge experience. Whilst there was no Champagne, there was a fully stocked bar with friendly bartenders who would serve up fantastic cocktails! We tried the ‘Fragrant Harbour’ which had Gin, lychee syrup, blue curacao and yoghurt. We then tried the ‘Bloom Time’ which had rum, violet syrup, apple juice, jasmine tea and soda water. Both were tasty, but I certainly preferred the Bloom Time as it was lighter and more refreshing.
There were several beers, red and white wines, a huge selection of premium spirits along with extensive juice and soft drink options. There were also a couple of coffee machines, and the black coffee I had was particularly smooth for a machine coffee. There was also a large assortment of teas laid out next to the coffee machine, although I did not have time to try any of these.
Wi-Fi and Amenities
The Wi-Fi was easy to connect and was super fast during my visit. There were also plenty of charging ports. The toilets were clean and well-maintained with premium hand wash, giving a luxury hotel kind of vibe.
There were no notable additional amenities, and something that could really have elevated the lounge experience would have been shower facilities. I think we were craving a shower as we had just got off a 12 hour flight from London and were about to board a 9 hour flight to Sydney!
Kyra Lounge Gate 23 Hong Kong Pros and Cons
Pros:

Kyra Lounge Gate 23 vs Gate 40 Hong Kong
Kyra Lounge Gate 23 and Kyra Lounge Gate 40 are very similar, with stylish interiors, strong food, cocktails, fast Wi-Fi and Priority Pass access. Based on our visits, Kyra Lounge Gate 23 was slightly better because it felt quieter and had marginally better tarmac views.
If both lounges are convenient for your departure gate, we would choose Kyra Lounge Gate 23. However, if your flight departs closer to Gate 40, the Gate 40 lounge is still a very strong option. You can read our related posts using the buttons below.
Is the Kyra Lounge Gate 23 Hong Kong Worth Visiting?
Despite the lack of shower facilities, Kyra Lounge Gate 23 Hong Kong is one of the strongest Priority Pass lounges we have visited at HKG. The food and drink options were genuinely impressive, the staff were friendly and the high speed Wi-Fi and charging ports make this a great place to catch up on some work.
The lounge is very similar to the Kyra Lounge at Gate 40, however, we would say the lounge here at gate 23 is slightly better, as it was less busy and the views from this lounge were marginally better.
