Check-In Experience

Check-in was quick and easy. There was no queue when we arrived, and the receptionist was smiley and welcoming. After scanning my Priority Pass and boarding pass, we were allowed straight in.

Ambiance and Seating at the Sala VIP Lounge Malaga Airport

This is a very large lounge and it immediately felt airy and spacious thanks to its open plan design. Seating was spread out well, so even with a decent number of guests it never felt cramped.

Most of the seating was made up of comfortable armchairs, with plenty of power ports available throughout the lounge. There were also workstations, which worked particularly well for getting some laptop time in.

One side of the lounge features floor to ceiling windows with views over the tarmac, which brought in loads of natural light and made the space feel much more premium than most Spanish contract lounges. On the other side, windows look back into the terminal and gate area, which is still a nice touch and helps the lounge feel connected to the airport.

There is also a conference room, but you would need to arrange this in advance before visiting.

Toilets and Cleanliness

There are two sets of toilets located at opposite sides of the lounge. Both were clean, well kept, and in good condition during my visit.

Food and Drinks

The biggest downside is that there was no hot food at all. That said, the cold selection was genuinely impressive, both in variety and quality, and everything was in a self serve format.

Cold food options included:

• Fresh fruit, including grapes, bananas, apples, and kiwis
• Spanish empanadas
• Cured ham and cooked ham
• Cheeses and small snacks, all of which were delicious
• Soft bread rolls
• Nuts and crisps
• Pastries, including pain au chocolat, chocolate croissants, and butter croissants
• Mini paninis and sandwiches

For a lounge with no hot options, this is about as strong as a cold buffet gets, and I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty and well stocked it was.

Drinks were also self serve. There were three coffee machines, although the americano I had was not great. Alcohol options included several red and white wines, plus a cava. Ice and lemon were available, and the glassware felt premium, which always improves the experience.

There was also:

• A lemon infused and orange infused water dispenser
• Bottled water
• A fridge full of soft drinks and a selection of beers
• A solid spirits selection

There was no champagne on offer.

Wi-Fi and Amenities

Wi-Fi worked well and was reliable throughout my visit. With the strong natural light, the tarmac views, the comfortable seating, and the amount of charging points, this lounge is a very good option if you want to relax or get work done before a flight.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Large, airy lounge with a spacious layout
  • Excellent natural light and tarmac views
  • Comfortable seating with lots of charging points
  • Strong cold food selection with plenty of variety
  • Clean toilets on both sides of the lounge

Cons

  • No hot food options at all
  • Coffee quality could be better
  • No Champagne available

Final Verdict: Is the Sala VIP Lounge Malaga Airport Worth Visiting?

Overall, this was one of the better Spanish contract lounges I have visited. It is large, comfortable, and noticeably brighter than most, with great views and a calm atmosphere. The drinks and cold food selection were extensive and felt well above average.

If they added even a small hot food offering, this would be an excellent lounge. As it stands, it is still a very solid option, especially for a morning visit.
