Premium Lounge Guangzhou T2 (Morning Visit)
Date of Visit: February 2025
Time: Morning (8:00 AM – 10:00 AM)

The Premium Lounge Guangzhou T2 is one of the pay-per-use lounges at Terminal 2 in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN). I visited in 2025 to see whether it offers enough comfort, food, and amenities to justify the entry fee. Here’s what to expect, from seating and showers to WiFi and overall value for money. We had a pretty cool layover in Guangzhou with our full layover guide written up here.

Location and Access Options

We arrived here on our way to Thailand, which included a pretty cool layover in Guangzhou. The details for our Guangzhou, China layover can be found here and Thailand here. The Premium Lounge in Terminal 2 (International departures) at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is well-positioned, located just past security on the 3rd floor to the right. You can access the lounge with a Priority Pass membership which you can purchase here (up to 20% off through this link).

Check-In Experience

Upon arrival, the check-in process was smooth and efficient. The staff were polite and welcoming, guiding me to the lounge area. No issues with the check-in, and I was able to enter the lounge without delay.

Please note, we also reviewed the China Southern Business Class Lounge at Guangzhou Airport Terminal 2, you can read this review here.

Ambiance and Seating At The Premium Lounge Guangzhou T2

The lounge itself is clean, modern, and spacious. As you walk past reception, there is an excellent area with lots of model planes of airlines from around the world – a really nice touch!

We flew China Southern into Guangzhou. You can find our China Southern Boeing 787 economy class post here.

The seating arrangements are comfortable, with a variety of options including lounge chairs, workstations, a reading/library area and small tables for those who prefer to eat or work. The lounge has a chilled, quiet atmosphere and was almost empty when we arrived. The decor is pleasant, with contemporary touches and an inviting environment. One slight downside came from the lack of outside views, which limited natural light. However, the lounge felt bright, and the design team clearly did everything they could to make the space feel inviting. Also, apologies for the lack of photos in this review. This was our first time in China and the whole vibe in Guangzhou airport around security just felt quite intense, so we did not want to draw unnecessary attention by taking lots and lots of photos here!

We arrived at this lounge on our way home from a fantastic couple of weeks in Thailand, the itinerary details of which can be found here.

Food and Drink At The Premium Lounge Guangzhou T2

The food offerings in the Premium Lounge were pretty poor for Western standards, although certainly better than the ‘Chicken Feet Soup’ or ‘Braised Mutton’ that we saw restaurants advertising in the airport eateries!

Hot items: There was a variety of self-serve hot dishes, including passable stir-fried rice, Chinese style stir-fried vegetables, and spring rolls. The spring rolls were inedible as they were filled with this suspect black paste (I’m not a fussy eater but this was really gross, and nothing like the delicious springs rolls that we were having in Thailand the week after!). There was also a noodle kitchen where they would cook fresh noodle dishes and soups for you. This was a nice addition and the beef noodle soup that I had was actually pretty tasty.

Cold items: The selection was pretty underwhelming, with fruit limited to just apples. Pot noodles, yoghurts and some biscuits were the only cold items on offer, which felt a little limited.

Drinks: The drink selection was pretty reasonable here. There was a local Pearl River Chinese lager available in cans, which I tried in a pre-take-off tipple test. A range of western soft drinks (Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite etc) and a selection of juices were also stocked up in the fridges. The coffee machine also produced a decent Americano which was certainly needed after a 12-hour flight from London. A slight downside was the spirits were non-existent, so no G & Ts on this layover sadly!

Wi-Fi and Amenities

Connecting to the lounge Wi-Fi proved difficult, since it required a full registration process, which made the experience a bit frustrating. There were ample power outlets available throughout the lounge, which made charging devices hassle-free. The lounge also offers a selection of magazines and newspapers for reading. There were also showers available if you wanted to freshen up during a long enough layover. The restrooms were clean and well-maintained.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
• Comfortable and spacious seating with a very calm and peaceful atmosphere.
• Relatively good food selection (despite some inedible items), with the noodle station being a cool addition to the lounge.
• Impressive shower facilities and well-maintained restrooms.
• Lots of usable charging ports dotted around the lounge.

Cons:
• We could not get onto the WiFi, with registration being lengthy and confusing.
• The lounge lacked any natural light, with no airfield views.

Final Verdict – Is The Premium Lounge Guangzhou T2 Worth It?

The Premium Lounge at Terminal 2 (International Terminal) probably offers the best experience you can get at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. The food was quite tasty and clearly beat the options available outside the lounge. Although the Wi-Fi failed to connect, the lounge still provided a comfortable and practical place to relax. It may not match the food and drink standards of most western lounges, but it remains a better choice than staying in the main terminal. If you hold a lounge pass or feel okay paying for entry, this space gives you a solid option for your layover.
