The China Eastern Business Class Lounge Shanghai (PVG) No.36 is a genuinely impressive lounge, mainly because it is absolutely massive and split across two floors. I visited in the evening and found it sleek, modern, and very comfortable, with fast WiFi, plenty of charging ports, excellent shower facilities, and even massage chairs, which was perfect after a long haul flight from London and on the way to Melbourne. The biggest drawbacks were the lack of natural light and a fairly limited premium drinks selection, but the calm atmosphere upstairs and the excellent food, especially the fresh noodle bar, more than made up for it. Overall, a solid lounge experience.

Check-in Experience
Check-in was smooth, and the staff were polite and helpful. Even though the lounge is huge, the process felt efficient and well organised, with no issues scanning my Priority Pass card.
Seating and best places to sit
The first thing to note is that this lounge is huge and split across two floors. My advice is to head upstairs to the upper level seating area, as it was much quieter during my visit and felt far more relaxing.
In terms of design, I was very impressed. The decor is sleek and modern, seating is comfortable, and there are charging ports everywhere. There were also dedicated workstations, plenty of comfy armchairs, and massage chairs, which were genuinely brilliant after a long journey.
The main downside is the lack of natural light. The windows had blinds on them, so there were no views and the lounge felt a little enclosed, especially for a space this big. However, the overall comfort level and cleanliness made it an easy place to spend a couple of hours.
Food and Drink
Food was the standout here and I was genuinely impressed by both the range and quality.
There was a large selection of salads, fruit, sandwiches, and cakes, plus a solid hot selection. The highlight was the noodle bar, where you can order fresh noodles cooked in front of you, which feels like a proper upgrade compared to standard self serve buffet lounges. There were also noodles and vegetables to help yourself to, and some delicious dumplings, which were easily my favourite item of the night.
Drinks were more limited than I expected for a lounge that also serves business class passengers.

• Usual soft drinks available
• Beer included cans of Heineken and Cody’s Wheat Beer
Overall, the food was excellent, but the premium drinks offering did not quite match the lounge’s scale and design.

WiFi was fast and reliable during my visit, and the lounge is clearly designed for long layovers with plenty of practical amenities.

Despite the lack of natural light and a slightly underwhelming premium drinks selection, the China Eastern Lounge is a very strong option if you value comfort and practical amenities during a connection. The calm upstairs seating, excellent showers, and genuinely good food, especially the noodle bar and dumplings, made this a comfortable and enjoyable two hour visit.
