Crowd Levels, Natural Light and Runway Views
When I arrived, there was a short queue at the entrance. Check-in staff were polite, efficient, and kept things moving quickly despite the morning rush.
Inside, the lounge was pretty busy at 9:00 AM. It is a large lounge with strong capacity, and while it is not as large as the Galleries South Lounge, it is still very spacious overall. That said, it felt very full during my visit, and you could tell it was working hard as a hub lounge.
The standout feature is the natural light. The lounge has huge floor-to-ceiling windows with excellent views across the northern runway, which makes it feel bright and airy even when busy. High ceilings add to that open feel, and a few well-placed plants help give the lounge a fresher, cleaner atmosphere than you might expect.
Design wise, I liked the modern, sleek light glass chandeliers, which add a touch of style. However, the lounge also felt well-worn in places. The carpets and some of the seating looked tired, and it slightly lowered the overall impression for a business class product in British Airways’ flagship terminal.
Seating and Comfort
There is a good variety of seating throughout the lounge. You will find workstations for laptops, high stools positioned to take advantage of the runway views, café-style tables, and armchairs with individual lamp lights for a more relaxed setup.
Even though the lounge was busy, I still managed to find a seat without too much effort, but it was not the most peaceful environment for deep work. Staff were working very hard to clear plates and glasses, and everyone I interacted with was polite and professional.
Showers, Wi-Fi and Family Facilities
Showers are available, but you need to book a slot using a QR code. The shower rooms were functional and clean, but they did not feel particularly luxurious. The plus point is that they feature Elemis shampoo and body wash, which is a nice premium touch.
Wi-Fi worked well throughout my visit, and I had no issues getting online. There is also a small kids play area in the corner of the lounge, which is useful for families during busy morning departures.
Food and Drink
Food and drink in the Galleries North Lounge is entirely self-serve.
For coffee, there is a Union Coffee station with several coffee machines. The coffee was very good for a machine, and there were shortbread and biscuits available to go alongside hot drinks. Tea drinkers are well catered for too, with a strong selection as you would expect from British Airways.
There are several drinks stations around the lounge, including cocktail making instructions, a wide range of premium spirits, and plenty of extras like ice and lemon. There were also pretzels, olives and crisps to complement the drinks, plus several wines available. British Airways are often very strong on drink selection, and that largely held true here.
Breakfast at 9:00 AM was a solid self-serve spread. Hot items included sausages, bacon, hash browns, baked beans, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, cooked tomatoes and porridge. There were also fresh fruit, granola, yoghurts and toast. The spread was pretty good, and staff did a strong job replenishing items despite the busy morning crowd.
As I was leaving, they were starting to put out more lunch and daytime options including salads, soup of the day, spaghetti bolognese, chicken curry, vegetable curry, and an afternoon tea style setup with sandwiches, cakes and scones. It did not look particularly premium, but it clearly covers the basics for most travellers.
Champagne Tip At The British Airways Galleries North Lounge
Champagne is not usually displayed in the British Airways Galleries North Lounge, with Bottega Prosecco more visible at the main drinks station. However, Champagne may be available if you ask a member of staff politely.
This is worth knowing before visiting, especially if you are flying Club World or have Oneworld status and expect a more premium drinks setup.
