China Southern Lounge, Guangzhou Airport (Mid-morning Visit)

China Southern Lounge Guangzhou Date of Visit: March 2025

Time: Morning (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

The China Southern Lounge Guangzhou is the main business class lounge in Terminal 2 at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport (CAN). I visited in 2025 ahead of an international flight to see what this flagship lounge has to offer. From food and drinks to seating, showers and WiFi, here’s what to expect and whether it’s worth your time if you’re flying with China Southern or a SkyTeam partner. Please note, we also reviewed the Premium Lounge at Guangzhou Airport Terminal 2, you can read this review here.

Location and Access Options

We stopped here during our layover in Guangzhou after flying from Thailand. The details for our Guangzhou, China trips can be found here and Thailand here. The China Southern Business Class Lounge sits airside in Terminal 2 of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. Clear signage points you toward the entrance, which sits on the first floor. The lounge opens from 4:30 AM until the final China Southern departure of the day.

You can access the lounge with a Priority Pass membership which you can purchase here (up to 20% off through this link). You can also visit the lounge if you have a China Southern business class ticket, or if you hold a China Southern Gold or Platinum card.

We arrived at this lounge on our way home from a fantastic couple of weeks in Thailand, the itinerary details of which can be found here.

Check-In Experience

We checked in quickly and without any issues. A friendly receptionist greeted us and welcomed guests with a smile. No queue had formed, so we entered the lounge within a couple of minutes after showing my Priority Pass. Guangzhou Airport felt like a ghost town during our visit. Terminal 2 is an enormous and impressive space, but very few passengers filled it.

Ambiance and Seating

This lounge is fairly large and offers plenty of comfy armchairs, two-person sofas, and a café-style seating area. The space lacked any windows or outside views, which made it feel a bit boxed in. However, the quiet and calm environment created a peaceful atmosphere, helped by the low number of guests.

A dedicated work area sits on the top floor, complete with several desks and computers, which makes it perfect for business travellers. A nearby newspaper and magazine stand stocks both English and Mandarin titles, which added a thoughtful touch.

Food and Drink at The China Southern Lounge Guangzhou

The mid-morning food offering was average at best, and nowhere near the standards of western airlines business class lounges. A summary of the food and drink spread:

  • Hot items: On offer were bao buns, beef noodles, chicken feet soup, pale chicken sausages, baked beans, and stir-fried vegetables. I tried most of it. Very little tasted good, and some dishes had no flavour at all.
  • Cold items: I saw basic side salads, instant noodles, and a few apples. That was it.
  • Drinks: The self-serve bar was pretty limited in offering, and very similar to the Guangzhou Premium Lounge which you can check out here. There were no Champagne or sparkling wines on offer, being limited to 1 red, 1 white and 1 rose wine. There was the canned Pearl River (local Chinese lager) on offer in the fridges, and the only spirit available was a cheap whiskey. All the usual Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite and Schweppes Tonic waters were available. If I had paid for a business class seat, I may have been slightly disappointed.

Wi-Fi and Amenities

The Wi-Fi required a long registration process, and I still couldn’t connect. While power outlets were available in multiple areas, none of them worked. Luckily, we brought portable chargers with us. On a positive note, the lounge kept its bathrooms clean. Mood lighting gave the space a slightly premium feel. We also found several day beds and showers. Both looked spotless. If you face a long layover, these features might come in handy.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
• Spacious, clean, quiet lounge with comfy sofa and armchairs.
• Useful layover facilities, including day beds and several showers.

Cons:
• I found the food offerings were either inedible or flavourless in my opinion, whilst the drinks options were limited.

•The lounge had no views whatsoever, and so there was no natural light.

•Wi-Fi and power outlets did not work.

Final Verdict: Is the China Southern Lounge Guangzhou Worth It?

The China Southern Business Class Lounge in Guangzhou Airport offers a spacious and peaceful environment, with comfortable seating and useful layover amenities like day beds and showers. However, I found the food disappointing, the drinks were limited, and the lack of natural light made the space feel boxed in. Adding to the frustration, both the Wi-Fi and power outlets were unreliable, making this lounge far from the premium experience one might expect.

If you have access through Priority Pass, a business class ticket or SkyTeam elite status, the China Southern Lounge Guangzhou in Terminal 2 is not incredible, but worth visiting overall for a short stay and is certainly better than waiting in the main terminal. Overall, the lounge in my opinion felt very similar to the Guangzhou Premium Lounge which you can check out here.
