The Lufthansa Business Lounge is located in the Z Gates area of Frankfurt Airport Terminal 1. This is within the non-Schengen departures zone, meaning that the lounge is only suitable for passengers departing on eligible non-Schengen flights.

Check-In Experience at the Lufthansa Business Lounge Z Gates Frankfurt Airport
We accidentally purchased our one-off lounge passes for the following day rather than the date of our visit.
After explaining the mistake to the reception staff, they could not have been more helpful. They changed the booking immediately and allowed us to enter without creating any unnecessary difficulties, so this really was top marks here!
Seating, Runway Views and Atmosphere
The first thing that stood out was the sheer size of the Lufthansa Business Lounge Z.
After taking the escalators upstairs, the lounge opens into an enormous seating area with floor-to-ceiling windows running across one side. These windows allow natural light to pour into the lounge and provide stunning views across the busy Frankfurt Airport apron and runway area.
There was plenty of aircraft activity to watch during the visit, making this one of the stronger Frankfurt Airport lounges for aviation views.
The lounge was relatively quiet when we arrived. Combined with its enormous size, this created a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
There was an impressive mixture of seating, including:
- Comfortable armchairs
- Café-style tables and chairs
- High stools
- Dining tables
- Armchairs with private screens
- Dedicated workstation seating
The armchairs with privacy screens were particularly useful for passengers who wanted their own space or wanted to relax away from the main seating areas.
Despite the size of the lounge, the layout was easy to navigate. Departure boards were positioned around the space, allowing passengers to monitor their flights without repeatedly leaving their seats.
There was also a customer service help desk inside the lounge, which could be particularly useful for passengers dealing with flight changes, connections or other travel issues.
Workstations, Wi-Fi and Charging Ports
The Lufthansa Business Lounge is well equipped for passengers who need to work before a flight.
There was an entire workstation section with proper desks and multiple charging options. Available sockets included:
- European power outlets
- UK power outlets
- USB charging ports
Charging ports were also abundant throughout the rest of the lounge, so passengers were not limited to the dedicated business area.
The Wi-Fi worked well throughout the visit and provided a reliable connection.
The combination of workstations, reliable Wi-Fi, plentiful charging ports and a quiet atmosphere makes this lounge particularly suitable for business travellers.
Showers and Toilets at the Lufthansa Business Lounge Z Gates Frankfurt Airport Terminal 1
Complimentary showers are available inside the Lufthansa Business Lounge.
To use a shower, you simply need to speak to the staff at the dedicated shower reception desk. They will book you into the next available room.
The lounge was quiet during our visit, so there was no wait for a shower. Towels and premium soaps were included which would be particularly useful feature for passengers connecting through Frankfurt after a long-haul flight or preparing for an overnight journey.
The toilets were also clean and well maintained throughout the visit.
Lufthansa Branding and Lounge Design
There were several subtle Lufthansa design touches throughout the lounge.
We particularly liked the Lufthansa-branded glasses, which made the drinks area feel more distinctive than the standard glassware found in many airport lounges.
The overall decor was modern, professional and consistent with Lufthansa’s branding. It did not feel overly decorative, but the bright space, large windows and branded features helped create a polished environment.
Magazines were also available for passengers to read during their visit.
Food at the Lufthansa Business Lounge Z Gates Frankfurt Airport
The food selection at the Lufthansa Business Lounge included several hot dishes, cold options, cakes and snacks.
However, despite the size and quality of the lounge itself, the food selection was slightly limited.
Hot Food
There were two soups available during the visit:
- Ginger and coconut soup
- Vegetable soup
Warm pretzels were also available and were one of the highlights of the buffet. They were fresh, soft and particularly enjoyable.
The main hot dish was chicken tikka masala served with rice.
Other hot options included ratatouille and a breaded vegetable pocket, which was similar to a savoury pastry.
The dishes we sampled were tasty, but there was not a particularly wide range of substantial hot food. Passengers looking for a full restaurant-style meal may find the selection a tad bit disappointing.
Cold Food, Cakes and Snacks
The cold selection included:
- Salads
- Fresh fruit
- Mousse desserts
- Cherry cake
- Chocolate cake
- Bread rolls
We did not see any cold meats or cheeses during the visit, which would have added more variety to the buffet.
There was also a wide range of snacks, including:
- Crisps
- Nuts
- Sweets
The cakes, warm pretzels and desserts provided plenty of lighter options, but the overall food selection was less extensive than the drinks offering.
The food was perfectly acceptable and everything we tried was tasty. However, considering the size and otherwise premium feel of the lounge, a wider selection of hot dishes, cheeses and cold meats would have improved the experience.
Drinks at the Lufthansa Business Lounge Z Gates Frankfurt Airport
The drinks selection was one of the strongest parts of the Lufthansa Business Lounge.
Everything was presented in a self-serve format, allowing passengers to prepare their own drinks.
Soft Drinks
The soft-drink selection included:
- Coca-Cola
- Coca-Cola Zero
- Fanta
- Sprite
Ice and fresh slices of lemon were also provided.
Beer
Budweiser was available in bottles.
There was also a self-serve Beck’s lager tap with Beck’s-branded glasses. Being able to pour your own draught beer was an impressive feature and helped the drinks area stand out from many other business-class lounges.
Alcohol-free lager was also available.
Spirits
The self-serve bar contained an extensive selection of premium spirits.
Options included Grey Goose vodka and Bombay Sapphire gin, alongside a large range of other spirits.
The quality and variety of the spirits selection were particularly impressive. Passengers had far more choice than they would typically find in a standard contract lounge.
Wine and Sparkling Wine
There was no Champagne available during the visit, which was disappointing for a Lufthansa business lounge.
However, several alternatives were provided, including:
- Prosecco
- Sparkling wine
- Alcohol-free sparkling rosé
- Rosé wine
- White wine
- Red wine
Although the lack of Champagne was noticeable, the overall wine and sparkling-wine selection still offered plenty of variety.
The extensive spirits range, self-serve draught Beck’s lager and choice of sparkling wines made the drinks offering one of the highlights of the lounge. We also appreciated the Lufthansa branded glasses which were a nice touch!

The Lufthansa Business Lounge is an impressive lounge with plenty of space, varied seating and excellent apron views.
Floor-to-ceiling windows provide natural light, while reliable Wi-Fi, abundant charging ports and dedicated workstations make it ideal for business travellers. Complimentary showers are another major benefit.
The staff were professional and helpful, particularly when resolving our incorrectly dated booking. The drinks selection was extensive, with premium spirits, draught Beck’s lager, wine, Prosecco and sparkling wine.
The main weakness was the limited food selection, although everything we tried was tasty.
Overall, the views, seating, showers, service and drinks selection make the lounge worth visiting. For those without a business class ticket or elite status, the €49 entry price represents reasonable value for passengers planning to stay for several hours.
