British Airways Galleries North Lounge Heathrow Terminal 5 Date of Visit: January 2026
Time: Morning (8AM – 10AM)

This British Airways Galleries North Lounge Heathrow Terminal 5 review covers my January 2026 morning visit from 8AM to 10AM, including how busy it gets, the best seats for runway views, and what the self serve breakfast is really like. I also share practical details on showers, Wi-Fi, family facilities, and the Champagne tip that many travellers miss, so you know exactly what to expect before your British Airways flight from London Heathrow Terminal 5.

We had access to this lounge as we were flying in Club Europe (BA’s short-haul business class). You can read our Club Europe flight review here.

British Airways Galleries North Lounge Heathrow Terminal 5 Location and Access Options

The British Airways Galleries North Lounge is located air side in Heathrow Terminal 5. After clearing security, remain on the first floor and turn left, then keep walking to the corner of the terminal where the lounge entrance is located.

Top Tip before you even get air side: use the Security line on the left hand side as you approach Terminal 5 at the check in area. It is often quicker and can save you a lot of time at peak morning departure periods.

The lounge is open from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, which lines up well with British Airways departures from Terminal 5.

Access is available to British Airways Silver and Gold members, plus Oneworld Sapphire and Emerald status travellers who are boarding a Oneworld flight. Entry is also included for Club Europe and Club World ticket holders and Oneworld business class passengers. You cannot purchase entry to this lounge.

First Impressions: Crowd Levels, Natural Light and Runway Views

When I arrived, there was a short queue at the entrance. Check-in staff were polite, efficient, and kept things moving quickly despite the morning rush.

Inside, the lounge was pretty busy at 9:00 AM. It is a large lounge with strong capacity, and while it is not as large as the Galleries South Lounge, it is still very spacious overall. That said, it felt very full during my visit, and you could tell it was working hard as a hub lounge.

The standout feature is the natural light. The lounge has huge floor to ceiling windows with excellent views across the northern runway, which makes it feel bright and airy even when busy. High ceilings add to that open feel, and a few well-placed plants help give the lounge a fresher, cleaner atmosphere than you might expect.

Design wise, I liked the modern, sleek light glass chandeliers, which add a touch of style. However, the lounge also felt well-worn in places. The carpets and some of the seating looked tired, and it slightly lowered the overall impression for a business class product in British Airways’ flagship terminal.

Seating and Comfort

There is a good variety of seating throughout the lounge. You will find workstations for laptops, high stools positioned to take advantage of the runway views, café style tables, and armchairs with individual lamp lights for a more relaxed setup.

Even though the lounge was busy, I still managed to find a seat without too much effort, but it was not the most peaceful environment for deep work. Staff were working very hard to clear plates and glasses, and everyone I interacted with was polite and professional.

Showers, Wi-Fi and Family Facilities

Showers are available, but you need to book a slot using a QR code. The shower rooms were functional and clean, but they did not feel particularly luxurious. The plus point is that they feature Elemis shampoo and body wash, which is a nice premium touch.

Wi-Fi worked well throughout my visit, and I had no issues getting online. There is also a small kids play area in the corner of the lounge, which is useful for families during busy morning departures.

Food and Drink

Food and drink in the Galleries North Lounge is entirely self-serve.

For coffee, there is a Union Coffee station with several coffee machines. The coffee was very good for a machine, and there were shortbread and biscuits available to go alongside hot drinks. Tea drinkers are well catered for too, with a strong selection as you would expect from British Airways.

There are several drinks stations around the lounge, including cocktail making instructions, a wide range of premium spirits, and plenty of extras like ice and lemon. There were also pretzels, olives and crisps to complement the drinks, plus several wines available. British Airways are often very strong on drink selection, and that largely held true here.

My main gripe, and it is a recurring one with British Airways business class lounges, is the lack of Champagne on display. Instead, there is a large Bottega Prosecco station, which feels a bit cheap considering many guests will have paid £3000 or more for long haul business class tickets.

Top Tip: Champagne is available, but you have to ask. Staff are happy to bring it out from the kitchen if requested politely!

Breakfast at 9:00 AM was a solid self-serve spread. Hot items included sausages, bacon, hash browns, baked beans, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, cooked tomatoes and porridge. There were also fresh fruit, granola, yoghurts and toast. The spread was pretty good, and staff did a strong job replenishing items despite the busy morning crowd.

As I was leaving, they were starting to put out more lunch and daytime options including salads, soup of the day, spaghetti bolognese, chicken curry, vegetable curry, and an afternoon tea style setup with sandwiches, cakes and scones. It did not look particularly premium, but it clearly covers the basics for most travellers.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
• Huge floor to ceiling windows with excellent northern runway views
• Bright, airy feel with high ceilings and good natural light
• Large lounge with a wide mix of seating styles
• Strong drinks offering with premium spirits and a well-stocked self-serve setup
• Good breakfast selection and reliable replenishment during a busy period
• Showers available with Elemis toiletries
• Wi Fi worked well and a small kids play area is a nice addition

Cons:
• Lounge felt very busy at 9:00 AM with a short queue on arrival
• Well-worn look in places, especially carpets and some seating
• No champagne on display and the Prosecco station feels a bit budget for a business class hub lounge
• Shower rooms are functional rather than luxurious

Final Verdict: Is the British Airways Galleries North Lounge Heathrow Terminal 5 Worth Visiting?

The British Airways Galleries North Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 5 is a very good space overall, mainly thanks to the huge runway facing windows, the bright open layout, and the strong mix of seating and amenities. It works well as a hub lounge and the staff clearly put in a lot of effort to keep it tidy and replenished during a very busy morning period.

However, the worn feel and the champagne situation do take the edge off what should be a more premium business class experience, especially in British Airways’ home terminal. It is still a worthwhile lounge to use, particularly if you want runway views and a bright space before a flight, but it falls short of feeling a truly premium airline lounge.
