Virgin Australia Business Class Lounge Melbourne T3 Date of Visit: March 2026
Time: Afternoon visit (3PM to 5PM)

Virgin Australia Business Class Lounge Melbourne T3 is a very strong domestic lounge and a huge step up from the basic contract lounge standard. The standout features are the sheer size of the space, the excellent floor to ceiling runway views, and the made to order barista coffee station, which feels very on brand for Virgin Australia and adds a premium touch. Food is solid for a domestic lounge, Wi-Fi is fast, and there are plenty of charging points, all of which make this a very comfortable place to spend time before your flight.

This is an enormous lounge, and that really helps the overall experience. Even though it was very busy when we arrived, the lounge absorbed the crowds well and never felt too cramped. We visited before our domestic Virgin Australia flight, and overall this is a really attractive and well-designed lounge with great views, solid amenities, and a fun atmosphere helped by the signature Virgin red decor and playful branding throughout.

Check-in Experience

Check-in was quick, simple, and efficient.

Staff at the entrance were polite and welcoming, so the first impression was a good one. There were also self check-in machines to speed up the process. Entry felt smooth and well organised, which is exactly what you want from a busy domestic lounge.

Ambiance and Seating

This lounge is absolutely huge, and that is one of its biggest strengths.

There is a wide mix of lounge style and café style seating, along with lots of dedicated working spaces, so it works well whether you want to relax, eat, or get some work done before your flight. The layout is spacious, and even though the lounge was very busy when we arrived, the seating was spread out enough that you never felt like you were sitting on top of other passengers.

There were quite a few empty plates left on tables when we first entered, which did slightly take away from the otherwise polished feel. Still, because the lounge is so large, it handled the crowds well and remained comfortable overall.

The design is another highlight. The Virgin red décor gives the space a strong sense of identity, and I liked the playful details such as signs saying “See you late Aviator” and “Food Glorious Food”, which add a bit of fun to the iconic Virgin brand.

The views are also excellent. There is an enormous amount of natural light thanks to the floor-to-ceiling-windows with impressive tarmac views for the plane spotters! I also had a great view of a Virgin Australia Boeing 737-800 right next to the lounge, which made everything fell very ‘Virgin’.

Food and drinks at the Virgin Australia Business Class Lounge Melbourne T3

The food offering here is very solid for a domestic lounge and well above average.

Hot food included a curry with rice, a tomato pasta dish, and leek and potato soup. There was also a selection of wraps, including pork with sweet mayonnaise and a sweet potato wrap, plus crisps, nuts, cheese and crackers, and fresh fruit such as kiwis, apples, and oranges.

A couple of the more fun additions really stood out. There was a ham and cheese toaster station, which was a nice touch, and also a pancake making station. There was also carrot cake, plus a salad bar with cous cous salad and noodle salad.

The overall drinks selection was solid overall. There was a soft drink fountain, still and sparkling water, and a wine selection made up entirely of Australian options, which was nice to see. Beer choices included 4 Pines Pale Ale, Pure Blond lager, Great Northern lager, and Asahi 0.0. I also saw Somersby cider in the fridges. Wine options included Hardy’s red wine, Tatachilla sparkling wine, Tatachilla Chardonnay, and Tatachilla Sauvignon Blanc.

I was particularly impressed by the Tatachilla sparkling wine, which was really smooth and tasty. I could not see any spirits available though, which is a bit of a shame and does slightly limit the premium feel of the bar offering.

The other standout here is the dedicated barista station. Having baristas making coffee to order feels very on brand for Virgin Australia, and the coffee was delicious. That definitely adds to the sense that this is a well thought out lounge rather than just a basic self-serve space.

Wi-Fi and Amenities

Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, which is exactly what you want despite the busyness of the lounge.

There were also plenty of charging ports throughout the space, which makes it easy to work or keep devices topped up before your flight.

The toilets were clean, and shower facilities were also available. Premium soap was provided, and the bathrooms had a slightly more upscale feel than you often get in domestic lounges, giving off more of a luxury hotel vibe.

Overall, the amenities are strong and help round out what is already a very solid lounge experience.

Final Verdict: Is the Virgin Australia Business Class Lounge Melbourne T3 Worth Visiting?

The Virgin Australia Business Class Lounge Melbourne T3 is a very solid lounge and one of the better domestic lounge experiences I have had. The huge floorspace, great runway views, abundant natural light, and excellent barista coffee all make it feel like a genuinely enjoyable place to spend time before a flight.

Food is decent for a domestic offering, the Australian wine selection is a nice touch, and the fast Wi-Fi, charging ports, showers, and clean bathrooms all add to the practicality of the space. Even though it was very busy during our visit, the lounge handled the crowds well because of its sheer size and spacious layout.

There are a few areas where it could improve, particularly with table clearing, a slightly broader hot food selection, and perhaps the addition of Champagne or a more premium drinks menu. Even so, this is still a really strong domestic lounge with a lot going for it, and one I would happily use again.
