Location of The Airport Lounge Europe Munich Terminal 1
The Airport Lounge Europe is located airside in Terminal 1, in the D gates section of the Schengen departures area.
This is currently the main Priority Pass option for Schengen flights from Munich Terminal 1, so it can get busy at peak times. The lounge is located next to the Air France KLM Lounge and sits within the Schengen departures area, making it useful if you are flying within the Schengen zone.
The lounge is open daily from 5:00 AM until 9:00 PM.
The maximum stay is 3 hours before departure.

Check-in was a little challenging during this visit. I arrived around three and a half hours before my flight, but because the lounge only allows access up to 3 hours before departure, I was asked to come back half an hour later.
The staff were polite, friendly, and apologetic, so this did not feel like a major issue. However, it is worth knowing before you arrive, especially if you are planning to spend longer in the lounge before your flight.

First Impressions
The Airport Lounge Europe Munich Terminal 1 is quite small and has a simple rectangular layout. The lounge runs in one straight shape, which makes the lounge feel a little boxed in and cramped.
The lounge was busy when we arrived, and this made the space feel quite tight. The ceilings are reasonably low, and the lounge is not particularly bright, so it does not have the airy feel you might hope for before a flight.
There are large windows, but these overlook the departures area rather than the apron. Like the Air France KLM Lounge next door, there are no runway or aircraft views.
This is one of the main downsides of the lounge. If you enjoy watching aircraft before your flight, this is not the lounge to choose.
Seating and Comfort at The Airport Lounge Europe Munich Terminal
Seating is one of the stronger parts of The Airport Lounge Europe Munich Terminal 1. There is a mixture of café style seating, high stool seating, and large armchairs with privacy screens.
The armchairs with privacy screens are especially useful for solo travellers, as they give you a more private place to sit, relax, and escape the main terminal.
However, because the lounge is small, seating can become a problem when it is busy. During this Saturday lunchtime visit, larger groups were struggling to find space, and some were even being turned away at the reception desk.
The lounge was comfortable enough once seated, but the busy atmosphere, lack of views, and lower ceilings meant it did not feel especially relaxing.
Food at The Airport Lounge Europe Munich Terminal 1
The food at The Airport Lounge Europe Munich Terminal 1 was fine for a lunchtime visit. It was enough for a light meal, but not something to get overly excited about.
Hot food included rice and a chicken dish. There was also tomato soup, which tasted better than expected and was one of the stronger food items during the visit.
There were also fresh pretzels, which were a nice touch and felt appropriate for a lounge in Munich. The German meats and cheeses were also decent, and this helped make the food selection feel more local.
Cold options included fresh fruit, cake, and a basic salad selection with tomato, cucumber, and green leaves.
Overall, the food did the job. There was enough to put together a lunch plate, especially with the hot chicken dish, rice, pretzels, meats, cheeses, and soup. However, the selection was still fairly standard and not especially inspiring.
Drinks at The Airport Lounge Europe Munich Terminal 1
The drinks selection was mixed.
There was one self-serve coffee machine, which produced a decent Americano. There were also bottled beers, a couple of red and white wines, and Prosecco, which was a nice touch. It was pleasing to see some fizz available in the lounge, especially as this is not always guaranteed in contract lounges.
The lounge also had proper glassware, which helped the drinks area feel like a slightly more premium experience.
However, the spirits selection was very limited. The only spirits we noticed were Limoncello and a bottle of Martini, which felt strange and made the bar offering feel incomplete.
If you want beer, wine, coffee, or Prosecco, the drinks selection is perfectly usable. If you are hoping for a wider spirits selection or proper cocktails, this lounge is likely to disappoint.
Wi-Fi, Charging and Facilities
The Wi-Fi worked fine during this visit, which made the lounge useful for browsing, messaging, or doing some light work before the flight.
Charging was more of a weakness. There were limited charging ports, and they were not positioned near many of the armchair seats. If you need to charge a phone, laptop, or tablet, you may need to choose your seat carefully or move closer to the available sockets.
There are no showers in the lounge.
There are also no toilets inside the lounge, which is another downside. You need to leave the lounge and use the toilets outside, which is a little annoying, especially if you are travelling alone and do not want to leave your seat.

The Airport Lounge Europe Munich Terminal 1 is worth visiting if you have access and want somewhere to sit, have a light meal, drink coffee, beer, wine or Prosecco, and escape the main terminal before a Schengen flight.
The seating is comfortable, especially the armchairs with privacy screens, and the staff were polite throughout the visit. The food was enough for lunch, with rice, chicken, soup, pretzels, meats, cheeses, fruit, cake, and salad. The drinks selection was also reasonable if you are happy with beer, wine, coffee, and Prosecco.
The main drawbacks are the size, the lack of views, the limited charging ports, the very limited spirits selection, and the fact there are no toilets inside the lounge.
This is a useful lounge rather than a memorable one. If you already have Priority Pass, it is a convenient option before a Schengen flight from Munich Terminal 1. If you are paying for access, it is better than sitting the main terminal area but nothing special.
