Check-In Experience
Check-in was friendly and efficient, with no queue when I arrived. Staff explained the basics clearly, and I was inside within a minute or two. The first impression was excellent, helped by how calm the lounge felt during our mid-afternoon visit.
Seating, Runway Views and Atmosphere
For a small airport lounge, the Northern Lights Executive Lounge makes a strong impression. The best feature is the natural light, with excellent runway views that give the space a bright, open feel. If you enjoy a bit of plane spotting before a flight, this is genuinely a great spot.
Seating is a mix of comfy armchairs and café-style tables and chairs. The armchairs are the highlight and make it an easy place to relax with a drink while watching aircraft movements outside.
One odd omission, though, is the lack of proper workstations. Considering Aberdeen is such a business-centric destination, I expected at least a few dedicated desks. You can still work from a table if you need to, but it does feel like a missed opportunity.

Food at the Northern Lights Executive Lounge Aberdeen was better than expected for a regional airport lounge. The selection felt fresh, varied and filling enough for a proper pre-flight snack or light meal.
During this mid-afternoon visit, the buffet included charcuterie, sandwiches, scones, muffins, fresh fruit, tortilla crisps, chilli and goulash. The hot options were a real plus, especially as many smaller UK airport lounges rely heavily on cold snacks. Overall, the food felt like a solid spread rather than a token buffet.
The drinks setup was even stronger. The lounge has a tended bar, which immediately makes it feel more polished than many self-serve regional lounges. Complimentary spirits included vodka, Gordon’s gin, pink gin, Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, Bacardi white rum, brandy, Dry Martini and Grouse whisky.
Beer and cider were also a highlight, with Tennent’s, Coors Light and Cold River cider available on draught, plus Becks Blue for a non-alcoholic option. Wine choices included house red, white and rosé, while mixers included tonic water, ginger beer, Irn Bru and Diet Irn Bru.
There was also the option to upgrade to premium spirits for just £1 per drink, which felt like a fair touch if you wanted something a little better without paying full airport bar prices.
Overall, the food and drinks at the Northern Lights Executive Lounge Aberdeen were comfortably above average for a smaller UK airport lounge. The hot food, tended bar, draught beer and strong complimentary drinks list were some of the best parts of the visit.
Wi-Fi, Charging Ports and Facilities
The Wi-Fi worked well throughout our visit, and the lounge stayed quiet and relaxing, which made it easy to browse, message, or do a bit of admin before boarding.
Toilets were clean and well maintained, which always makes a big difference in smaller lounges.
The main downside on the amenities side was the lack of charging ports. In a lounge that attracts business travellers, you really want plenty of easy access power points. You can make it work, but it is not as convenient as it should be.
