Etihad Economy London to Abu Dhabi Flight Overview

Etihad Economy London to Abu Dhabi Flight Duration 6 hours 55 minutes
Departure Time: 08:50 (Daily from Terminal 4 LHR), lands at AUH at 19:45 local time (+4 hours)
Aircraft: Airbus A380-800
Flight Number: EY62

Etihad Economy London to Abu Dhabi on the Airbus A380 is one of the best direct options from London, especially if you upgrade to an extra legroom seat. On this LHR to AUH flight I tested the A380 cabin, the entertainment, both meal services, and the surprisingly rare inclusion of an economy amenity kit. Here is exactly what you get, which seats are worth choosing, and whether Etihad beats British Airways economy class on this route in 2026.

Booking and Value

Return tickets for Etihad Economy London to Abu Dhabi cost £520, which is exactly the same as British Airways on the direct service. You can read our British Airways economy review on the same route here. This is a fair price when you consider the alternatives, as cheaper options to Abu Dhabi or Dubai can be found for £350 to £400, but these typically involve a stop in Doha, Istanbul, or Saudi Arabia.

If you have a layover in Abu Dhabi, then I have reviewed the Pearl Lounge at Terminal A. You can read this review here.

We also reviewed the Plaza Premium Lounge at Heathrow’s terminal 4, which you can read all about here.

Etihad and BA are the only airlines offering direct flights between London Heathrow and Abu Dhabi, so given the convenience and time saved, £520 return represents good value in my opinion. I chose to pay an additional £50 (approximately $60USD) one way to secure an extra legroom seat. This increased seat pitch from the standard 31 inches to 36 inches, and it genuinely felt close to premium economy in terms of space, which usually have a 38-inch seat pitch. For longer flights, such as Abu Dhabi to Sydney, this upgrade would definitely be worthwhile.

Boarding and Punctuality

Boarding was very efficient and well organised, and my Etihad Economy London to Abu Dhabi flight pushed back right on schedule. The early morning departure from London meant I had to get up early to make it over to Terminal 4, but the arrival time of 19:45 in Abu Dhabi is excellent. It allows you to land in the evening, get some rest at your hotel, and feel pretty fresh the next morning.

Seat Comfort and Cabin Experience Etihad Economy London to Abu Dhabi

The Airbus A380 cabin is vast, with 415 economy seats spread across the entire lower deck. Standard seats have the same 31 inch pitch and 17.5 inch width as BA on this route. However, the front economy cabin on the lower deck is by far the best choice, especially the smaller 3-3-3 layout rows 40 to 47 which are branded as ‘space seats.’ These provide a much more spacious feel compared to the main economy cabins. My upgraded seat here was very comfortable, with excellent legroom, a fresh blanket, pillow, and a basic headset provided. There was even a small amenity kit provided which was very IMPRESSIVE for economy, and far above BA’s economy service. The adjustable headrest added extra comfort, and I liked Etihad’s warm colour scheme which made the cabin feel sleek.

In-Flight Entertainment Etihad Economy London to Abu Dhabi

During the Etihad Economy London to Abu Dhabi flight, we found the IFE system to be impressive, with a large screen and an extensive choice of films, TV shows, and music. It felt faster and more polished compared to BA’s Dreamliner system. For just under a 7 hour flight, there was more than enough content to stay entertained, and overall the product was very solid.

Food and Drinks Service Etihad Economy London to Abu Dhabi

Around 45 minutes after departure, the first drinks service began, followed by lunch service, which did take a while to be served at around 2 hours into the flight. This was served as a three course meal on one tray, with a choice of three main options. While no printed menu was available, the meal was excellent for economy, which made up for the long wait a little bit, I guess. The second meal was served one hour prior to landing and consisted of a hot margherita pizza and another round of drinks. To be fair to Etihad, this was absolutely delicious, and far better than the stodgy lattice that I’m used to on BA economy class flights.

Cleanliness and Facilities Etihad Economy London to Abu Dhabi

The bathrooms were kept clean throughout, though there were no additional amenities in the bathroom provided, which is fairly standard practice in economy. As previously mentioned, I was so impressed that Etihad provided an amenity kit in economy at every seat which is exceptionally rare for economy! The A380’s cabin felt fresh, modern, and well lit, which added to the overall positive experience.

Staff

The crew were polite and professional, but given the size of the A380 economy cabin they were not overly attentive. Service was very slow, shown by the 2 hour wait for that first meal. This is to be expected on the Airbus A380 as there are more than 400 passengers in economy.

Final Verdict Etihad Economy London to Abu Dhabi

Etihad Economy London to Abu Dhabi offered excellent value with a comfortable cabin, impressive entertainment, system and even an amenity kit in economy. Slow service aside, the overall experience is strong for a long-haul economy class product and I would pick Etihad over BA on this route.
