Check-In Experience
Check-in is often where this lounge feels the most chaotic, mainly because people tend to hover around the entrance trying to work out whether they will be admitted.
On this visit, it was much easier than expected. There was only a short queue, and we were checked in without any stress. Staff were very friendly and efficient, which set the tone for a really smooth visit.
Ambiance and Seating at the No1 Lounge Gatwick South
The lounge is a good size, and it feels bright and welcoming thanks to windows on two sides that let in plenty of natural light. We had great runway views during this visit, although the windows are not floor-to-ceiling.
Décor is modern and comfortable, with plants throughout the space adding a bit of warmth. Seating is varied, with lots of comfy armchairs and sofas, plus café-style tables across different sections. The bar seating is a nice touch too, with bar stools that give it a more social feel.
Another feature I liked was the small TV room sports area. It is a simple addition but gives you an alternative spot if you want to sit somewhere more casual.
Food and Drinks at the No1 Lounge Gatwick South
Food was the weakest part of this visit.
On the hot buffet, the standout was the chicken hot pot, which was genuinely tasty with tender chicken. Other hot items included oven baked potatoes, beef stew, roasted parsnips and carrots, nut roast, pesto penne pasta, and Brussels sprouts. It is a lot of options on paper, but a few of them felt a bit random, and the overall quality did not really come together.
On the cold side, there was couscous, plus cheese and crackers, and apples in a fruit bowl. What stood out most was what was missing, there was no salad at all, which felt like a miss for an evening spread.
For something sweet, there were blueberry muffins and chocolate brownies, which were simple but did the job.
Drinks were a much stronger story. There is a self-serve soft drink fountain, while the bar is fully tended. The spirits selection was genuinely decent, and it was great to see Aperol included. Prosecco is included too, so we had Aperol Spritzes, which made for a great pre-flight tipple!
Wine options included a couple of reds and whites, and the only extra charge was Champagne.
One of the best parts of the bar setup is the draught selection, with Inch’s cider and Amstel on tap, which you do not always see in airport lounges.

Wi-Fi and Amenities at the No1 Lounge Gatwick South
Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, with charging points available around the lounge. There is also a business area, which is useful if you need to get some work done.
Toilets were clean and well-maintained. Facilities are fairly limited beyond the basics, and there are no showers, but everything we used was in good shape. Staff were very friendly throughout the visit.

The No1 Lounge Gatwick South Terminal is worth visiting if you want runway views, natural light, comfortable seating and a strong full-service bar before your flight. During this Friday evening visit, the lounge was not too busy, check-in was easy and the overall atmosphere felt much more relaxed than expected.
The drinks setup was the strongest part of the experience, with a staffed bar, Prosecco, Aperol, spirits, wine and draught options. However, the food was weaker than the drinks. The chicken hot pot was tasty, but the overall buffet felt uneven and the lack of salad was disappointing.
Overall, this is a solid Gatwick South lounge if you pre-book and value drinks, views and a comfortable place to sit. It is less impressive if food is your main priority.
